A Midsummer Night's Dream
Grade 4 and 5 theatre and art project
In Shakespeare’s play, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, the character of Puck is a goblin who lives in the fairy wood. We have designed masks to wear as we rehearse scenes as Puck in the forest.
To create the special magical effect , we use a technique of colour mixing. A coffee filter is coloured using marker pens. Water is added so that the colours blend together. The mask is then cut.
Puck uses his magic flower juice to cast magic spells: ‘Churl, upon thine eyes I throw, all the power this charm doth own’…
Making the magical flower for Puck to cast his spell : ‘Flower of this purple dye’
Masking tape blocks out the shape of the trees. Diluted inks are painted over, and salt sprinkled on top. The salt absorbs the pigment and creates magical effects for the midsummer sky. When the picture is dry, the salt is brushed away.
