ECOLE PRIMAIRE
FILIERE PARITAIRE FRANCO-ANGLAISE

PRIMARY SCHOOL
BILINGUAL INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL of STRASBOURG

"Learning and growing together"

The main purpose of BISS is to provide a high-quality international education for children living in the region. From 1st to 5th grade, this bilingual English-French educational opportunity, based on the successful "Paritaire bilingue franco-allemand "model, is unique in Strasbourg and has the full support of the French Ministry of Education.

The main features of the program are:

  • Low pupil-teacher ratio, individualized pedagogy
  • 12 hours of instruction in English and 12 hours in French
  • All obligatory French National curriculum areas are taught (some in English, others in French).
  • Supplementary elements are added to the obligatory curriculum
  • Language support is offered for students who have difficulty in French
  • Curriculum that includes project work
  • The possibility of participating in Fine Arts workshops on Wednesday mornings

The Bilingual International School of Strasbourg is part of the Le Gymnase Lucie Berger Primary School, a private school under contract with the French government. As such, BISS is able to take advantage of all the facilities of a much larger institution, including sports halls, the library and computer network. While continuing to offer a unique program of studies, this arrangement enhances student security and offers wider opportunities for extra-curricular activities (hot lunch, after-school care, music, sports…). Le Gymnase has full administrative responsibility for BISS. Students follow the same daily schedule and holiday schedule as the other Gymnase students.

Bilingual International School of Strasbourg
Performance arts workshops

The performance arts workshops take place on Wednesday mornings, between 8:30 and 12:00. They are an optional feature of the school week. Children sign up for the whole year. It is a vital part of the ethos of our workshop programme that the students consider their enrolment as a serious commitment, and realise their responsibility both to themselves and the group.

The program is devised to provide a special opportunity for students to develop their language skills through the context of the performing arts. Workshops are taught in French and English according to the subject area and nationality of the teacher (Drama is always taught in English in order to maximize students’ confidence and practice in the language).
Each year, a new project is designed.
